Signing Tommy's Guitar

This is the third installment in Audio Rumble's Tommy Conwell rockumentary series.

It wasn't too long ago that DJ Caterina one day noticed the signature of guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan on Tommy's infamous 1969 Guild X500. The signature is also dated 1990, significant considering that SRV died in a helicopter crash in August of that year. So when did this meeting of two guitar greats occur and how did we mere mortals miss the epic event of feeling the earth quake and the pillars of heaven shake...

Anyway, I just always wanted to know that story...
 

Audio Rumble Presents | A Tommy Conwell Rockumentary | Beginnings

This is the second installment in Audio Rumble's Tommy Conwell rockumentary.

UT-Dallas Emerging Media and Communication grad student DJ Caterina creates a rockumentary on Philadelphia guitar player, Tommy Conwell. This film is a curation of videos, songs and performances (documentary-style) and features an exclusive interview with Tommy Conwell about his musical influences, his role as a performer, old interviews and exclusive video and audio footage.

This is the official submission of a capstone project for completion of the Masters of Arts (MA) in Emerging Media and Communication degree at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Dick Clark [1929-2012]

Dick Clark, who brought rock music into America's living rooms every afternoon, shaping tastes and making careers, died of a massive heart attack this morning.

"The world's oldest teenager" was 82.

Rumblers Get Unlucky

Philadelphia rockers Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers, who recently played the Paradise, had their equipment truck stolen later that night from their hotel. The truck was recovered, but the instruments were gone, including Conwell's one-of-a-kind Guild guitar with signatures from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chrissie Hynde, John Lee Hooker and others.

First Concert Review

A review of Tommy Conwell's Young Rumblers' first gig from University of Delaware's student newspaper. 

The Review | February 28, 1984

     (Chaz) Molins returned to the stage to play bass in the evening’s second set, the debut performance of the Young... Rumblers. With Mike Walls on drums and Tommy Conwell on guitar and vocals, the Rumblers played about 45 minutes of cover tunes and originals in a style Conwell called “wild white-boy blues.” Though there was little variety throughout the set, the dancers responded enthusiastically to the steady rock rhythm, simple bass line and heavy distorted guitar. Conwell’s voice has a George Thorogood rasp that is well suited to his music, which Glare called “cool rockabilly/rock and roll blues.” Conwell shares with several other rockers a penchant for over-the-head and behind-the-back guitar playing. The audience brought the Rumblers back for an encore of the beach classics “Hawaii Five-O” and “Walk, Don’t Run.”
